Just in Time for Fall - Comfort Food

I've found the best comfort food sandwich in Philadelphia at Square Peg, 929 Walnut Street, Philly - behold the Mac&Cheese Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  Feeling a little down - it'll fix ya, haven't eaten all day - go right to Square Peg and order this up - you'll be full in a heartbeat...it comes with Tomato Soup too so it feel's like you popped into Grandma's house for a quick bite!  You'll really love the vibe at Square Peg too - attentive staff and it's bright and cheery...could be my fall hang.

It's the Little Things!

Last weekend my man and I stopped into Crate and Barrel in King of Prussia - he'd never been and I wanted to point out a few "necessary" items for the kitchen.  He was actually in the market for egg rings/forms and I was looking for a fashionable cheese grater.  Yes, I know I could pick up a grater at my neighborhood Acme, but I'm a sucker for anything in a super-cool holder...now that I'm officially trying this whole cooking thing, I want to at least be hip about it, right?  I learned that hip and thrifty don't necessarily jive, so I'll be finding my next cheese grater at my local Acme!  He, however, found exactly what he was looking for and voila, the perfect egg, bacon and cheese on a muffin was born unto our breakfast routine. You would've thought he'd whipped up the best brunch since LeBecFin, he pratically created a runway in the dining room to walk his sandwich down - I gave him a good golf clap and promptly took a bite - Delish!  It really is the little things.

Delish Chicken Salad in the Suburbs

Usually I'm eating my way through Manayunk or Center City Philadelphia, but recently I joined a Ben FM client for lunch and was charmed and amazed.  There's a sweet little gem of a restaurant in Blue Bell called The Farmer's Daughter (in Normandy Farms where Coleman's used to be) and if you're in Montgo, you should definitely pop in for lunch or dinner.  The Farmer's Daughter features an exceptional menu by Chef Mtele Abubakar's ("Modern Farm Cooking") that uses locally sourced ingredients - that's why everything tastes so incredibly fresh and delicious.  I was particularly impressed by the selection of farmstead cheeses available as first or main course, and although I didn't have one, the salads looks fresh and fabulous (and got rave reviews from my table mates)!  I can tell you first hand that the chicken salad was delightful as was the little taste of gert's crab cake sandwich!  Not only was the food fantastic, but the service was super-professional and I really loved the presentation!  Take Mom out to lunch, or treat a business partner or colleague.  The ambiance and history alone is worth the visit, but the food will have you booking your return engagement...I promise!

3-Days from Thanksgiving and I'm chowing down on PRIMO's

Because who can RESIST?  Not I!  So much so that in the photo below I already took a bite.

My fav:  ABRUZZI: Thumanns Home Style Roasted Pork & Sharp Provolone Topped with Fresh Broccoli Rabe and that's what I'm eating as we speak - quite possibly one of the best sandwiches I've ever had - Primo's knows how to do hoagies and hoagies just beat out CheeseSteaks in a favorite sandwich competition in City Council - so eat one to celebrate!

After you've had your fill of Thanksgiving (by around Saturday, right?), head to Primo's for the perfect hoagie.  And, while you're here - let's share your special Thanksgiving traditional recipes.  Maybe Broccoli rabe is one of the?  Share with the rest of the class pretty please.

"More Gruel Sir"

Yes, I beg, borrow and steal for food.  I'm not bragging, but I just can't help myself.  The guys that work right down the hall from me are constantly getting food delivered and it always smells sooooo good.  This morning Panorama Ristorante (Front & Market Philly) cooked Gnoochi and I simply could not resist...two different kinds too.  One was a vegetable gnoochi - looked like spinach pasta and chock full of veggies, the other straight-up perfect cheese filled potato gnoochi which was absolutely delicious.  I know there's many places cause we are lucky enough to have some fantastic restaurants who do a great gnoochi, especially since we've got South Philadelphia, but let me recommend a stop into Panorama at some point...try it, you'll like it.
